Jonathan Shlafer

Jonathan Shlafer is an Amagansett-based sculptor who finds his artistic muse in the landscapes of the East End of Long Island. With salvaged and reclaimed wood, concrete and steel as his mediums of choice, he carves and refines natural shapes, bringing forth his unique creations that encompass a diverse range of forms, from small to XL totems, sculptural pieces, and furniture. Jonathan’s craftsmanship extends to the finishing touches of his works, which are adorned with oils, bleaching, or the traditional Japanese Sho Shugi Ban / yakisugi technique. Through this method, the wood undergoes a charred transformation, revealing its intrinsic textual beauty.
